Auto Bid is Upwex’s automatic bidding engine. Instead of clicking into each Upwork job one by one, Auto Bid scans search results, evaluates every job against your rules, and submits proposals on matching ones – running in the background so you can keep working in other tabs, windows or apps.

What Auto Bid actually does

  1. Reads the current Upwork search results page (whatever filters you have applied)
  2. For each job in the list, opens the detail slider, extracts title, description, client info, budget and skills
  3. Runs Match Score – the same engine as the Check Fit widget – and decides match / no-match
  4. Checks the job against your configured Auto Bid filters (min score, daily caps, job age, type, active hours, etc.)
  5. If everything passes, generates a cover letter using the template you selected for this run
  6. Opens a proposal tab next to the search tab and submits the proposal on your behalf
  7. Closes the proposal tab and moves to the next job, with a small randomized delay in between

When to use Auto Bid

  • Broad markets where volume matters (translation, data entry, general dev).
  • Long-tail niches where you have a competitive edge but few jobs appear – you can’t afford to miss any.
  • Agencies running volume across multiple synced profiles.
  • Connects management – combined with a high Match Score threshold, Auto Bid spends connects only on jobs worth bidding on.

When NOT to use it

  • Enterprise / high-ticket jobs – they reward a personal touch and are too few to automate.
  • Brand-new freelancer with no reply-rate history – you don’t yet know what’s working.
  • Untested templates – refine them on manual submissions first, then let Auto Bid scale them.

The safety layer

Auto Bid is not reckless. Every run respects:

  • Min Match Score – never bids on jobs below your threshold, even if AI says match.
  • Daily bids cap and Daily connects cap – hard limits per day; Auto Bid stops once either is reached.
  • Stop on low connects – pauses when your Upwork connects balance drops below the threshold you set.
  • AI credits balance – stops cleanly if you run out of credits mid-run.
  • Active hours window – only runs inside the time-of-day window and timezone you defined.
  • Job filters – skip fixed-price or hourly jobs, filter by job age, etc.

You can stop the run at any moment with the red button on the widget – it finishes the current job and shuts down cleanly, no half-submitted proposals.

Where the run happens

Auto Bid runs inside the same Upwork search tab you started it from. To keep that tab fully active even when you switch to other windows or applications, Upwex attaches a tab capture keepalive when you launch a run – this prevents Chrome from throttling JavaScript timers in the background, which is what would otherwise stall the scan. The keepalive needs a single click in the extension popup at the start of every session (Chrome requires it for the tab-capture permission), so the launch flow is:

  1. Click Start Auto Bidding in the widget
  2. Review settings, click Confirm & Continue
  3. Click the Upwex extension icon in your browser toolbar
  4. Press Start Auto-Bid in the popup

From that point on the run is fully background – you can switch tabs, focus other windows or other apps and the scan keeps progressing with full reactivity. Each matched job opens a proposal tab next to the search tab so you can watch the cover letter being generated and the proposal being submitted in real time, then closes itself once done. Nothing is hidden.
